HISTORY OBJECT IN SALESFORCE

History objects in Salesforce offer businesses a detailed view into changes to individual records over time. By tracking changes to fields, organizations with Salesforce can preserve records of every past state of records and track them forward against a timeline. Organizations often use this feature to maintain historical records that may be useful for auditing, compliance, and other reporting requirements or analysis.

Salesforce gives organizations the power to record data over time with History Tracking, which was introduced in the Summer ’17 release. This feature records all changes to a specific record for up to six objects, including Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, and Custom Objects. In addition to standard objects, it also records changes to fields, such as Assignment (owner), Record Type, and Status.

Organizations can use all the historical records stored within the platform to make better operational decisions, understand changes made to important records, and ensure accurate reporting. With History Tracking enabled, organizations can review changes to multiple fields on a single screen and compare values before and after changes were made. Changes are generally grouped by the same field, though organizations can group fields together if needed. It’s important to note that, However, setting up and enabling History Tracking requires a certain degree of technical know-how.

Salesforce also offers a feature called Change Data Capture (CDC), which records changes to fields similar to History Tracking. For instance, CDC captures the previous and current values of fields that data has been removed from or added to, and provides organizations with an audit trail for changes to records.

CDC is especially useful for companies that need to capture and update data on a timeline, such as retail stores and ecommerce companies. CDC makes it easier for these organizations to unde processing problems and anomalies so they can be addressed quickly and effectively. It also allows them to keep records intact with a single, detailed history of every change to a particular field. CDC is simple to setup and easy to use, and organizations can decide which fields to track.

Using History Tracking and Change Data Capture, businesses can be equally prepared for audits or compliance requirements. These tools allow companies to access records of past changes so they can ensure their systems are accurate and up-to-date with any regulations or standards. Organizations benefit from the deep insight and historical data preserved in Salesforce to better inform their decisions and analyze their data more effectively.
