As a Salesforce enterprise consumer, you are familiar with having to keep up with the latest Salesforce releases in order to keep your business processes secure and to keep your data backed up and recovered. It can be difficult to keep track of record types and their associated record type ids. Luckily, understanding how to get the record type id in Salesforce is relatively easy and can be done by following a few simple steps.

First, you need to identify the record type you are looking for. The Salesforce platform provides a wide variety of record types and associated record type ids. Once you’ve identified the specific record type, it’s time to figure out how to retrieve the record type id associated with it.

The most efficient way to get the record type id is to use Salesforce’s Schema Builder. This allows you to quickly search for the record type and all its associated fields, including the record type id. To start the search in Schema Builder, go to Setup, enter ‘Schema Builder’ in the quick find box, and click the link to open the page.

When the page loads, you’ll see all the sobjects available on your instance. To access the record type, select the sobject and search for the record type in the object’s tabs. When the list of fields related to that record type appears, look for the RecordTypeId, which is designated with a lightning icon. You’ll find the record type id associated with that record type in the record type column.

Note that the record type id works like a unique identifier for that specific record type and is different from the Id used to identify a record of a given object type.

Alternatively, you can also use the Salesforce Developer Console to access the record type id. To do so, simply open up the developer console and use the left-hand navigation drawer to open the object. Locate the record type, click it to open, and note the id displayed in the Record Type Info tab.

Using the record type id will allow you to customize your salesforce instance to help your business processes run more securely and with fewer complications. It’s important to understand how to get record type id in Salesforce to ensure the success of your business.
