No. The Salesforce Data Recovery Service is a paid last resort, not a backup strategy. It costs $10,000 per recovery, takes a minimum of 6–8 weeks, returns data only (no metadata), and does not guarantee 100% restoration. Salesforce retired it in July 2020, then reinstated it in March 2021. Enterprises need a configured backup solution in place before an incident occurs.
Salesforce Weekly Export runs only once every 7 days, returns flat CSV files without metadata or relationships, deletes export files after 48 hours, and (as of Winter '26) rate-limits downloads to one file at a time. That means up to seven days of potential data loss and manual, spreadsheet-based restores. It is unsuitable as an enterprise recovery mechanism for mission-critical or regulated data.
Salesforce's native Backup runs within the Salesforce platform and shares its infrastructure, and it does not back up metadata such as Flows, profiles, and permission sets. DORA (Regulation (EU) 2022/2554), Article 12(3), requires EU financial entities to restore data using systems that are "physically and logically segregated from the source ICT system," with tested recovery and defined RTO/RPO. Backup frequency should match your Recovery Point Objective — the maximum data loss you can tolerate. Daily backups risk up to 24 hours of loss; high-frequency or near-continuous backups reduce that to minutes. Regulated and high-velocity environments, especially those running AI agents, typically need high-frequency backups with granular point-in-time restore. Flosum supports scheduled, incremental, and high-frequency backups.
